Warm is the new cool!
Founded in 2010 after a soggy 6500km road trip around New Zealand, where fun striped polypropylene thermal base layers are ubiquitous and popular, Wild Stripes® Base Layers are putting the fun into thermal underwear!
Founded by Claire Templar, who has had a life long passion for travel, adventure and, erm, stripes. Claire has travelled all over South East Asia, Australasia, Scandinavia and Europe by various means including by foot along the Overland Track in Tasmania, hitchiking from Alice Springs to Townsville in Australia, by dugout longtail up the Mekong in Cambodia and Laos, and by 28′ yacht from Southern England to Norway (via Copenhagen!)
Claire first discovered striped polyprops whilst being dressed for a kayaking trip on Milford Sound in New Zealand’s Fiordland, immediately thinking ‘How cool! I really need some of these!’ Claire’s preferred method of transport is always boat (and you can read about her latest adventures with her Hurley 22 on her blog www.littleyachtduet.com) so she likes to wear her Wild Stripes® Base Layers whilst sailing, or under a dry-suit whilst diving (although she has also been known to wear them around the house too!)
As a company Wild Stripes® is continually working on minimising our environmental impact and take our responsibility to do so really seriously. Garments are ethically made in New Zealand (see pics here) and usually shipped from the manufacturer in individual polythene bags, but we work with suppliers to minimise the packaging we use. As such, Wild Stripes® Base Layers are shipped to us from New Zealand in cartons lined with one large bag to protect them from moisture and any other potential nasties that they may encounter on their journey and we have made a choice not to use individual packaging, swing tags or any other fripperies for our internet and direct sales that you might just pull off and throw away! We only use 100% recycled paper products for our packaging and marketing materials at events, and if you buy over the internet we will dispatch your garments in an Eco poly biodegradable mailer. This website is also carbon neutral (and properly, not just carbon credits!) If you have any ideas on how we can do things better, please get in touch!
